Summary of Responsibilities as Ag. Director:
i. Since 1974, have participated in the research projects of the Centre which included development of curricula for library use education for the various levels of education, establishing the reading interest of the Nigerian child, developing reading habit among Nigerian children, design, and production of instructional media for primary schools, conducting survey of school library resource centres and compiling list of suitable children’s books and non-book media for Nigerian school libraries. I have since 1987 been giving leadership in this area.
ii. Developing a model school library media centre which provides multi-media collection in support of readers’ services to children and schools, research in children’s literature and training of school library personnel and also writers of children’s books.
iii. Organising workshops, conferences and seminars in the areas of school librarianship, children’s literature, use of media in education, design and production of instructional materials and related subjects.
iv. Teaching courses in audio-visual resources in education, school library management and related fields at undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
v. Developed a course programme for a part-time diploma in school media resources.
vi. Supervision of students on library practice or industrial attachment from Nigerian Universities.

In Progress:
1. A national survey of the variety of school library programmes being offered in the Federal Government Unity Schools in support of the effective teaching of the curriculum. The survey will assess the relevance and adequacy of library programmes in the secondary school with a view to establish level of adoption of existing school library standards, problems militating against developing a virile school media programme and make recommendation that could improve on the quality of school media programme in the secondary schools. The proposal has been submitted for Senate Research Grant.
2. Assessing the adequacy and relevance of children’s books and magazines in Nigeria and determining areas of deficiency in subject coverage. The research proposal has been submitted for Senate Research Circle. The researcher has been collecting publishers’ catalogues, and special bibliographies of children’s literature published by libraries and related centres and world has started on compilation of comprehensive list of children’s book and magazines.
3. Media utilization and users’ characteristics: an evaluative study of public usage of Abadina Media Resource Centre’s resources 1974 – 1999. IV is a departmental research project led by Dr. D.F. Elaturoti. The study is to find out the mode of usage of the centre’s learning resources, when the users are, and adequacy of the services rendered to meet users demand. It will also assess the impact the centre’s profromme on the reading culture of Nigeria children. The collation of relevant data to the study has begun.
